The National Fish & Chip Awards Official App

Available on iPhone, The National Fish & Chip Awards official app is an interactive guide to the very best performing UK fish and chip takeaways and restaurants from the past 25 years of the National Fish & Chip Awards, the UK’s premier fish and chip awards. Geographical tagging provides users with the location of their nearest champion fish and chip shop, along with a potted history of the respective venue. Users can also create a list of their favourites within the app so gourmet grub can be enjoyed time and time again.

Paul Williams, CEO of Seafish, commented: “There are many quality fish and chip establishments in the UK but only the very best make it through to the finals of the National Fish & Chip Awards. With our iPhones increasingly being the go-to when searching for dining recommendations, we saw a gap in the market for an app that would showcase them all.

The National Fish & Chip Awards is dedicated to promoting the fish and chip industry within the UK and that means getting consumers into shops and eating our favourite national dish, fish and chips. With this app we hope to point people to the very best seafood on offer from our national industry!”

The first Fish and Chip Shop of the Year Competition was created in 1987, after a group of friers decided to celebrate the best in their industry; after 12 months of planning and judging, Toffs of Muswell Hill, London was judged the finest fish and chip takeaway in the UK.

Since then thousands of shops and restaurants have entered, and the awards have become a favourite with both the industry and the UK public. Over the years, a host of famous foodies and celebrity chefs have pledged their allegiance to this national favourite and hosted the awards ceremony. These include: Brian Turner, James Martin, Antony Worrall Thompson, Jilly Goolden, Simon Rimmer, Rory Bremner, Jay Rayner, Aldo Zilli, Richard Corrigan and Ainsley Harriot.
