This category is open to all bona fide independent fish and chip takeaway shops with three outlets or less (including those with a restaurant attached) in the United Kingdom (excluding shops in the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man).

Entering the National Fish & Chip Awards 2011 is easy and we have introduced several new categories to the 2011 awards. To enter or to find out more, simply review the criteria and rules for each of the awards below and then complete the entry form and send it back to us.
Entries to the National Fish & Chip Awards 2011 are judged by industry experts selected by steering committee composed of members of the National Federation of Fish Friers, the National Edible Oils Distributors Association and Seafish, together with industry experts. The awards are judged without any bias towards geographical region, type of fish used, frying method, suppliers used or distributors, and are judged solely on the criteria and rules set out in the entry forms and rules which can be downloaded below.

Independent Fish and Chip Restaurant of the Year Award
The Best Independent Fish and Chip Restaurant of the Year category is open to all bona fide independent fish and chip restaurants (with three outlets or less if part of a group) in the United Kingdom (but excluding shops in the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man).

This award, launched in 2009, is open to all bona fide fish and chip shop operators with four or more takeaway outlets.

Best Foodservice Outlet Serving Fish and Chips Award
The Best Multiple Fish and Chip Operator – Restaurant category is open to all bona fide independent fish and chip operators with at least four restaurant or café outlets in their chain (including those with a takeaway) in the United Kingdom (but excluding shops in the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man). Businesses should have been in operation for at least 18 months.

This award recognises outstanding new talent entering the fish and chip shop trade and is open to independent fish and chip takeaway shops, that have been trading for 18 months or less

This award recognises shops for their staff training and development. The judging panel will review areas such as delivery, development, impact, monitoring and relevance.

The award is open to all fish and chip shops throughout the UK and provides shops with the opportunity to be recognised for their excellence with regards to contributing to their local community.

The Good Catch Award
This award recognises fish and chip shops that have shown initiative in improving the environmentally responsible practices of their business and the seafood that they buy, serve and promote. This new award also aims to encourage further progress across the fish and chip sector by increasing awareness of sustainably sourced seafood and the practical support available to businesses.

The Young Fish Frier of the Year Award
The competition to find the Young Fish Frier of the Year offers young fish friers the chance to showcase their skills and background knowledge in all aspects of fish frying, plus their ability to run a successful business. The applicants need to have a positive attitude, together with confidence in their own abilities.
